Burr Walnut Jewellery/Sewing/Cufflink Box with detailed marquetry (Circa 1900)
A good sized fully restored jewellery box (or for small sewing pieces) Previously a ladies work box.
Lovely burr walnut with a border and fruit wood stringing
There is also black edging that I believe is ebony, some of this has been repaired
There is marquetry on the top and escutcheon (see below)
Original brass hinges
Original lock and key (see note below)
Some of the detail on the top cartouche was missing so I have done my best to replicate it!
The escutcheon marquetry is the original with the white inset replaced
Lid is lined with black satin and complementary printed marbled paper throughout the rest of the box
Removable tray 3.5cm depth
Storage below is approximately 6cm
Dimensions of the box are 30cm x 22cm x 15cm (H)
The base has black felt
French polish finish
A really good sized box
NB As you can see I am always honest about repairs and replacements in most cases these are commensurate with age.
The lock is the original and works with the key however it takes a bit of 'jiggling' I always send notes on old locks and keys!
The marquetry on the top has been repaired as has the white insert on the escutcheon (it wasn't there....)
